Food Trends

Last year “mash-ups” like Cronuts (who can resist a mélange of croissant and donut?!) entered the culinary lexicon, and kale became a veggie superstar. Someone- Keizo Shimamoto- also thought, “Hey, let’s use ramen noodles as a bun for a burger…” and people went crazy for it!

Somebody pass the kale chips, please…

In addition, miniature desserts were a great way to enjoy decadence on a small scale. This was especially good news for us here at Perfect Taste- we LOVE mini desserts and feature them at many of our events!

There is no precise way to predict the trends for 2014; the love of food is so subjective. Even without any quantifiable method, we are seeing that health and wellness are continuing to take center stage.  Vegetables are a standout as folks realize that meat does not always have to be the main course.

With the proliferation of farm-to-table concepts in the Bay Area, we are VERY lucky to live in an area that is so abundant! We love the plentiful, fresh ingredients as much as you do, and look forward to sharing our passion in the kitchen.

Gluten-free will continue to its upward trend, bringing ancient grains and seeds with them. I think when you see 1 lb bags of chia seeds and hemp-seed cereal at Costco, food has crossed over into the mainstream. Ch-ch-ch-chia! Who knew?
